Chocolate Brownie Nigella style !

It might surprise you to know that some puddings in the professional kitchen actually stem from so called amateur cook books. As you might know I am a huge fan of the fantastic Rachel Allen and her cook book Bake has been a constant source of inspiration during the last few years. I have to say though that last year I swapped one Anna Hansen cook book and one Jason Atherton cookbook for one slightly battered copy of Nigella Lawson's "How to be a domestic Goddess' with the Head Chef at the Treehouse, Alnwick gardens and it is an absolutely fantastic book for making all things involving a gooey sticky mess in a bowl ! At the Treehouse they used Nigella's recipe for Chocolate Brownie and on Saturday I was working at a pub near where I live and they used the same recipe too ! Its a small world as they say !
So just in case you have not got round to becoming a Domestic Goddess like me (!!! ha ha !) here is the recipe.

Nigella Lawson's Lawson's Chocolate Brownie.

I did not take this picture and I think it's copyright belongs to ES magazine and I really hope they do not mind me using this brilliant photograph.

In a heavy bottom pan place 385 grams of Dark 70% Cocoa Chocolate and 385 grams of unsalted butter. On a low heat melt the mixture.
In a mixing bowl place 6 large eggs and 500 grams of Caster sugar and mix until you have a pale colour.
When the Chocolate and butter have melted and you have stirred them to combine allow to cool slightly and then add them to egg and sugar incorporating them fully until you have a bowl of shinny chocolate..ness !!

Now you can just add your flour to this stage and cook in the oven but if you want to you can add some nuts, or white chocolate pellets or one one my favourites is to get a box of 'Celebrations' sweets and mix a few of those into the mix to give the devourer of the brownie a little surprise.

I just added more Chocolate !

Next add a TBSP of vanilla extract and then mix 225 grams of sifted plain flower into the chocolate mix and fold in until it is completely combined.

When all is thoroughly mixed pour into a lined baking tray and cook in a fan assisted oven at 180 degree's C for 22 minutes. Take out of oven and slightly shake tray. The Brownie should have a pleasing wobble to it. Now leave to cool.

Unfortunately for me while the brownie was cooking my Sister arrived like a heat seeking chocolate missile . Not really a Domestic goddess when it comes to cooking more of a Oven chips, beans and Fish fingers kind of cook so her sons tell me. like most women she could smell chocolate 3 miles away and as much as I tried to throw her off the scent of the cooking chocolate treat she managed to hang on until my timer went off and I had no option but to take it out of the oven where she promptly ate a portion and then took half of the brownie home for my nephews and my brother in law to enjoy well that's what she said.I would have been surprised if it lasted the 10 mile trip back to her home in Whitley bay ! ha ha !

One piece did survive the Sister attack and I enjoyed it with some Caramel ice-cream. This is a very quick and simply recipe and you must make it soon...enjoy.
